Brimscombe is 3 miles from Stroud. Textile and silk weaving mills have been sited here since the early 1500's. Brimscombe Port was a focal point as the Headquarters for the Thames & Severn Canal. he former port is to be regenerated as part of the canal restoration project. The local pub, the Ship Inn, takes its name from Severn trows which plied the Stroudwater Canal up until the 1930's.
